Having taken his show on the road, Orphax (aka Sietse van Erve, who also runs the tirelessly inquisitive Dutch experimental label Moving Furniture Records) recorded this freshly composed piece live at the Cube Cinema in Bristol. Intent on “further explor[ing] the perception of time,” on Echoic Memory he establishes a demur base-line drone that stretches outward, wavering but constant, up to which sidles a new dusky color, which eventually peels off in favor of another. It’s pretty and it’s enchanting. Time certainly seems to dilate. With chimes fading as it closes, you will have no idea how long you’ve been listening.
