Exploring the relationship between composition and chance. These words should summarize the music on the release To by Danish musician P Jørgensen. And this seems to be quite a correct description. With both acoustic and field recordings Jørgensen creates his music. The several ingredients get their treatment on the computer to form ambient drones with varying textures.
On To we find a total of ten pieces with an average length of only 3 minutes. This short length may sound strange to some considering we are talking about drones here, but how uncommon it may seem for this release it works really well. Long pieces might even be bothersome here.
With minimal means P Jørgensen knows how to create a blanket of soft organ like drones. The shimmering sounds are enriched with the soft hiss and rumble from field recordings. From this an organic touch lives in the music. While the music is soothing, it also leaves a melancholic. This is something Jørgensen shares with more young musicians in the minimal ambient and drone world. Memories of albums by Celer and on a lesser scale also Machinefabriek are arise from deep. Like so much of these layered ambient drones you can't really call this authentic music. But more important is the care for details and love put into this to make it a beauty. To is a job well done and enjoyable enough to get in the collection. |
